Hi Everybody,
As DEC, I spend my idle hours thinking about ARES, CT ARES, Region 2, what we do, and why we do it.
As I look at it, it all comes down to being civic and community minded and willing to "Be Prepared" in order to be able to volunteer to "Be There" - if and when you are ever needed.
What does that really mean?
When we speak of "Be Prepared" concept, that refers to:
- being certified in the "CORE 4" FEMA Courses (IS 100, 200, 700, 800)
- maintaining/improving your level of operating and technical proficiency, and
- having your "Go-Box", "Go Kit", and "Go-Bag" (your personal support gear) squared-away and ready to "Grab 'n Go" as you head out the door.
When we speak of a volunteer who will "Be There", we think in terms of having your household and family provided for beforehand , so that you can answer the call and "BE THERE" without hesitation or distraction.
- If you are worried about your family and house, you won't want/be able to come out to play.
