How to Manually Program your UV-5R
- While I have not yet discovered other short cuts for entering information, this procedure, while pedantic, will work.
- For consistency, I use EXIT every time I finish a step so that I won’t forget the steps when it MUST be done.

BEGIN…

Power On

Select VFO "A" (top register) with A/B button.

VFO/MR (for VFO or “Frequency Mode”)

Menu, 7 (Dual Watch, “S” on LED screen), Menu, up/down buttons to OFF, Menu, Exit

Type in: RX Frequency

Menu, 25 (Shift +/-/Off), Adjust with Up/down Buttons, Menu, Exit

Menu, 26 (Offset), Menu, Adjust with Up/down Buttons*, Menu Exit
• Short cut: Type “006”, “05”, “01” to enter actual Offset not Up/down buttons

Menu, 13 (Tx CTSS for VHF, #12 for UHF), Menu, Up/Down buttons, Menu, Exit

Menu, 27 (Memory Channel), Menu, Up/Down buttons, Menu, Exit

BREATHE 

*SCN (Shows “R” on the LED screen, and shows the offset TX frequency)

Menu, 27 (Memory Channel), Confirm Channel and then, Menu, Menu, Exit

Keypad Button: *SCN (To Turn “R” Off)

VFO/MR (for “Channel Mode”)

Select Memory Channel and Test with PTT.

Repeat Programming Procedure for other entries until Done.

When finished, (and if desired):
Menu, 7 (Dual Watch, “S” on LED screen), Menu, Up/down buttons to ON, Menu, Exit

Power Off (as desired)

NOTES:
If you make a mistake or just want to change a previously programed memory channel,...
- get into VFO/Frequency Mode.
- Menu 28 / menu/ select channel to delete/menu/exit
- go to Menu 27 and repeat instructions for RX and TX .

Menu 4: VOX "OFF"
Menu 5: "Wide"
Menu 6: "5"
Menu 7: "OFF" (personal preference)
Menu 9: "150"
Menu 10: "OFF"
Menu 11: "OFF"
Menu 14: "English"
Menu 16: "OFF"
Menu 19: "OFF"
Menu 20: "10" (adjust for personal preference)
Menu 23: "OFF"
Menu 24: "OFF"
Menu 29: Stand-by Color (adjust for personal preference)
Menu 30: Recieve Color (adjust for personal preference)
Menu 31: Transmit Color (adjust for personal preference)
Menu 35: "OFF"
Menu 36: "OFF"
Menu 39: "OFF"

DCS related Menus: 11, 12 - leave "OFF" (unless needed)
